Who we are
Bright Angels Junior (BAJ) School started in 2010 with nine children and provides top level child care and education to pupils. The school is located in Luzira Kirombe, one of the slums in Nakawa Division, Kampala district. Bright Angels Junior School is situated about 10 kms from Kampala city centre, Bukasa road off Butabika road, Kirombe trading centre, in Luzira.
The idea to set up the school was to educate all school going children in the area with a high standard education at fair school fees, given that majority members of the community are low income earners. Kirombe community is comprised of mainly the urban poor in a slum setting. The main economic activity is brick-laying, from which comes the name ‘Kilombe) meaning a place where bricks are made in Luganda. Majority residents do not have regular incomes and are mainly employed as casual labourers. As the school grows and expands, Kirombe community will be able to send all their school going children to school and reduce school drop-outs.
Kirombe is also one kilometer from Luzira prison, the main Prison facility is the country. It is equally less than a Kilometer from Butabika mental hospital. The majority of workers from these two government facilities are low income earners who reside in and around Kirombe. Bright Angels Junior school is providing an opportunity to children from the low income earners in the community to access top quality education.
